THE KIM AND HAROLD LOUIE FAMILY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES 2009 LOUIE SCHOLARS
32 outstanding students receive scholarships totaling $100,000
BURLINGAME, CA (PRWEB) May 21, 2009 —The Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation announced today that it has granted scholarships totaling $100,000 to 32 outstanding high school seniors and college students throughout the United States. This year, the Foundation received a record number of applications, more than twice the number from the previous year. The Foundation granted scholarship awards to less than 9% of the applicants. Applicants included valedictorians, student leaders, recent immigrants, many of whom will be the first in their families to attend college, and others who have overcome great adversity. Choosing scholarship recipients this year was obviously difficult, and made more so because of the increased demonstrated needs attributable primarily to the economic and financial hardships currently facing many Americans.
“We believe each of our 2009 Louie Scholars represents someone who has demonstrated great potential to make a significant impact in the lives of others or in their chosen fields of study. We are also proud that our 2009 Louie Scholars come from both genders and diverse racial backgrounds and economic circumstances, and hail from all over the country,” said Betty B. Louie, The Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation’s Founder and Chair of the Board of Directors. “Our scholars are chosen for their demonstrated leadership, scholastic achievement, involvement in their respective communities, financial need, and the ability to overcome adversity. Extra consideration was also given to the children of United States veterans and students with special needs.”
The Kim and Harold Louie Family Foundation is committed to providing higher educational opportunities to those who have aspirations to better themselves and to make a difference in the lives of others, with special emphasis on youths from underprivileged and underserved communities and from families of U.S. veterans.
